  • Do you have a smartphone recommendation?

    UVA recommends that the smartphone carrier be either Verizon, AT&T, or T-Mobile.

    These three firms participate in a program (DAS) which brings cellular signal coverage indoors to the dorms, the athletic facilities and stadiums, the dining halls, various other buildings on UVA’s Grounds.

  • Can I use a Mac?

    While Windows devices have greater compatibility within the Engineering School, some majors are more Windows depended.  MAE and CEE use several Windows OS specific software.

  • Is there a specific computer recommended for E-School?

    Students are expected to have their own laptops in the Engineering School. Any computer that meets the requirements of the selected Major are acceptable. Engineering IT recommends that you consider warranty, accidental damage, and storage needs when making a decision.

  • Can I use my current laptop?

    Delaying the purchase of a new laptop is a viable strategy. Different engineering majors have their own requirements and purchasing a laptop after you declare a major is a good option. If your current laptop is approximately 3yrs old or newer it should meet first year engineering course requirements.     The M365 License, part of the user license associated with all faculty/staff/students for Microsoft applications including CoPilot, now includes the ability to attach and use "cloud files." Linking to a file allows it to be used as a basis for your queries and questions. It's as easy as 1-2-3 in the CoPilot prompt!
