Explore Research in BME

Our department deeply values undergraduate research. BME undergraduates work in our department labs as well as selected labs in the School of Medicine. Each semester, we have roughly a dozen students working on research projects for an independent Research for Credit class, as well as paid and volunteer research assistants. During the summer, BME students are the largest major represented in the Dean's Summer Engineering Research Fellows program.

Not sure what university research is like? Not familiar with what BME is? Come visit us and see what we do! We have started a new Open BME program in the 24-24 school year. Students can visit a lab, attend a lab meeting, or attend a research talk at our weekly seminars. Click links below for more details.

Entering the BME Building
Type MR5 Building, UVA School of Medicine in Google maps. Students must enter the BME building (called MR5) between the Claude Moore Medical Education Building and McLeod Hall. Look for the covered sidewalk behind McLeod Hall and turn left under the covered sidewalk to the side door of MR5. That door will open with your standard UVA ID badge, but all other doors to MR5 are locked. Turn right once inside the building to the atrium with elevator and stairs. Our department is on the second floor of MR5.  Look for signs for our Open BME events. Lost? Stop by the department office by the 2nd floor elevator for directions.
