About

Majid Shafiee-Jood is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Virginia, where he also serves as the Director of Graduate Studies. Shafiee-Jood conducts interdisciplinary research at the intersection of climate risk management, water management, decision making, and policy.

Shafiee-Jood has a Ph.D. degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he focused on advancing forecast-informed decision making in water resources and agricultural systems by bridging the gap between theoretical and empirical studies. Before joining UVA in August of 2020, he spent was a Postdoctoral Scholar at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign leading an interdisciplinary project funded by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Climate Program Office on improving seasonal drought forecast information in rainfed agricultural systems in the US Midwest.

Shafiee-Jood also has a master's degree in Water Resources Engineering and a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, both from Sharif University of Technology in Iran.
